Lefthander and 2008 NDFA led Greeneville in ERA and Greeneville relievers in WHIP that summer. Co-led (with Matt Nevarez) the 2009 Lexington Legends in Saves with 13. Led the Lancaster JetHawks in Strikeouts for 2010, then failed to lead the 2011 AA Corpus Christi Hooks in anything. 0 - 3 with a 3.66 for the Cal League champion Lancaster JetHawks in 2012, he led the team in appearances and co-led in Saves. Repeated at Corpus in 2013, and repeated the leading-the-team-in-Saves thing, as well, and got an August callup to OKC, where he was also effective. Split 2014 between Corpus Christi--where he had a 1.32 ERA in 22 Games--and AAA Oklahoma City. Becamse a free agent after the 2014 season, and pitched the 2015 season at AAA New Orleans for the Marlins

CARDS I HAVE PLAYER POSITION REMARKS
2 Luis Valbuena Cards
Major Leaguer
3rd Base

Acquired before the 2015 to address the fact that Matt Dominguez had started at third 153 times in 2014. Upped his power game with a career-high 25 Homers, but only hit .224. I loved watching this guy play 3rd Base, because he never used his leather when his ungloved hand would do. Played only 90 Games in 2016, as both Alex Bregman and Yuli Gurriel were incoming. So Valbuena was obviously outgoing, and he signed as an FA with the Angels for 2017. Sadly killed by robbers in his home country of Venezuela on December 6, 2018. He was 33 years old

Dominican NDFA and King of the Negative Launch Angle was Appy League Pitcher of the Week for Greeneville July 3, 2016 and a Texas League midseason All-Star for Corpus Christi in 2018. Houston's Pitcher of the Year in 2020 and 2023, and an AL All-Star in 2022 and 2023. No-hit the Cleveland Guardians on August 1, 2023, and lost another with two outs in the ninth vs. the f*&^ing Mallcops on August 6, 2024. Then, he pitched perhaps the greatest game of his career on May 30, 2025, when he threw a Complete Game 3-hitter against the Rays on only 83 pitches.

Second on the team in OPS for the Hooks at Corpus Christi in 2009, then played at Corpus in 2010 and 2011, becoming the team's all-time RBI leader in the process. Second round pick in the June 2010 draft led the 2010 Greeneville Astros in WHIP with a 0.99, and also became the first player in the organization with the initials 'VV' since Victor Valdez pitched in 73 games on the farm between 1992 and 1994. Injured his elbow, however, and missed all of 2011 after Tommy John surgery. Returned for Tri-City in 2012, and was 4 - 1 for the V-Cats, with a 3.35 ERA over 9 Starts, and over 11 K/9IP. Led the 2013 Quad Cities River Bandits in IP and K, and posted a nice 1.12 WHIP, while posting the second-highest K/9 in the organization. Missed two months during 2014 with a strained groin, and had his 2015 Spring cut short with a strained latisimus dorsii

Daz Cameron, Franklin Perez, Jake Rogers, Drew Gilbert, and Ryan Clifford : these would be the players the Astros gave up to get a two-time Cy Young award winner, a three-time All-Star, an ALCS MVP, author iof a no-hitter and a 20-Game winner for the club. There was a lot of handwringing about prospects given up, especially the second time, but make the trade, you know?

NDFA 7/05 got as high as the major league club in 2010, being called up for the September roster expansion and going 0 - 0 with a 4.50. Had a wonderful 33:4 K/BB during his 32-Game stint with Corpus in 2011, then posted a 30:8 ratio for the Hooks in 2012 over 25 Games, including 2 Starts
47 JONATHAN VILLAR Cards
Major Leaguer

Received in the trade for Roy Oswalt with JA Happ on July 29, 2010, and played at High A Lancaster as a 19-year old, although the numbers weren't good. Ditto in 2011, when he played AA at the age of 20. Proclaimed to be the fourth best prospect in the organization by Baseball America prior to the 2012 season, Villar hit .261 and struck out 87 times in 86 Games while repeating for the Hooks that year, but hit 11 homers and stole 39 bases with only 8 CS. Began the season at, and played 91 Games for, Oklahoma in 2013, notching 32 XBH. Called up to Houston on July 21 after the release of Ronny Cedeño. Villar hit .243 with a .321 OBP for the Astros, swiping 18 bags but getting caught 8 times. Started Opening Day, April 1, 2014, but defensive lapses rather than offensive ones got him sent down to OKC for most of the year
