Hernandez kinda reminded me of Juan Agosto, in that he seemed to do better the more work you gave him--until his arm totally flamed out. After a couple years with a 4.50 + ERA with Toronto and Houston, the 'Stros gave him the ball again and again in 1992. He made 77 appearances and pitched 111 innings. He responded with a 2.11 ERA and a 9 - 1 record. In 1993 he did almost as well, pitching 96-1/3 innings and saving 9, with a 2.61 ERA, though with only a 4 - 5 record. Bob Watson musta figured that he'd ridden that particular horse long enough, and he traded the sore-armed Hernandez to the Yankess for Andy Stankiewicz and another sore-armed guy, former phenom Domingo Jean. Hernandez presented the Yankees with a 5.85 ERA, and was never again any good. He came back to the Stros for the second half of 1996, and gave Terry Collins' club a 5 - 5 record with a 4.22 ERA. | ||
