JIM MONIN -- The 21-year-old third baseman for the Bulls is realizing his lifetime ambition.

tourney in '63 with a fantastic .586 average. . . . He then entered the University of Kentucky and after his freshman year was awarded an athletic scholarship. . . . . In his sophomore and junior year he was the All-Conference shortstop. . . . Jim hit .302 as a soph and .310 as a junior. He was drafted No. 3 in the nation by the Astros after his junior year and was signed to a "substantial" bonus pact by Houston scouts Paul Florence and Al Vincent. . . . Played for a very short timewitht he Cocoa Club of the Florida State League and Amarillo of the Texas League last year. . . . Has been with Durham the entire season save for a two-week assignmentto Salisbury. . . . For relaxation, Jim plays golf (in the low '80's) and bowls (average 195). . . . In the offseason he is a student at the University of Kentucky, majoring in business administration. . . .Very much single and very much an admirer of the state of North Carolina . |
