1971 Topps # 130 |
With apologies to the incredible Bill Spiers, Denis Menke may have been the most versatile player in team history. While starting on Opening Day three times, and putting together two All-Star seasons, Menke also played all four infield positions at some point during the season three times:
He had won the award in 1968, when despite hitting only .249 in his first year after coming over from the Braves, his teammates noticed the job he was doing filling in for the injured Joe Morgan, and I guess his 23 doubles and team-leading six triples. |
