From the '68 Game Program
Deal, born Ellis Fergason Deal, left the Houston organization again after the 1969 season to accept a coaching job with the Cleveland Indians. He coached for the Tigers in 1973 and 1974, then eventually took a job as the Phillies' roving minor league pitching instructor in 1979, before returning to Houston under the Bob Lillis regime in 1983. He stayed with the Astros until Lillis was fired after the 1985 season.
